Joshlynn's Journey -The delivery

The day finally arrived! August 23, 2013...Exactly one week before my due date I gave birth to a handsome little boy. He is without doubt, the best, most precious gift God has ever given to me. Throughout these past nine months I have taken every step to ensure that I looked after myself during pregnancy. I have eaten healthy, exercised exceptionally well, and remembered to take my prenatal vitamins. After nine months of waiting, I was anxious and excited to meet our little bundle of joy.

My labor began in the early hours of Friday after Matt left for work. I had a feeling I was going to have a baby, so I asked Matt to keep his phone close to him that day. It wasn't long after he left that I knew these contractions weren't going away. They were nothing compared to what the Braxton Hicks contractions felt like in the previous weeks. I called my step-mom and she knew just by talking to me that I was in labor and suggested to let my dad keep me company at the house since he was closer to me than Matt. So while waiting for my dad to arrive, I did a lot of squatting, pacing, and swaying back and fourth to help ease off the pain a little bit. When my dad arrived, we timed my contractions, ate breakfast, and watched a couple funny YouTube videos to pass the time. By 9:45 am, I knew it was time to go to the hospital. I called my doctor to let her know I was in labor and she requested I see her before heading in.  I didn't care what I looked like or what I was wearing. I went to the clinic in my pajama's, with messy hair and make-up on from the day before. When we arrived at the clinic around 10:30 am my contractions were coming on fast and quick. My doctor wanted me to be checked and to ensure that I was at least 4 cm dilated before admitting me into the hospital. Sure enough I was at 4cm! I immediately called Matt after seeing the doctor to tell him the news. He was ecstatic and left work right away!

After being admitted into the hospital at 11 am, I spent a lot of laboring on my feet prior to getting the epidural at 2pm. Shortly after 5:45 pm my water was broken and I dilated at the speed of light and Gunner Alan came into this world at 7:15 pm. He measured at 6 lb. 10 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. It's hard to find the words describing what it was like holding our baby for the first time. Matt and I both cried tears of joy, it was the most incredible feeling ever. It's worth every little second and I'm honored to have gone through labor with my husband and family as my biggest cheerleaders. So there you have it, after 39 weeks, I will continue to blog my journey into motherhood and experience all the ups and downs as becoming a new mommy.
