One of my constant goals is to spend more time unplugged - no phones, no computers, no televisions. One of the ways I'm doing this is I've started walking with my kids. If we only have five minutes, we walk around the backyard and look at the trees. We notice the differences in the bark, height, scent, color and texture. We play games like, "If this tree were a person, who would it be? Some days we walk down to the stream and throw rocks or stare into the water looking for fish or frogs. On the way down, we scan the ground for animal tracks and the air for birds making mind memories and capturing the pictures of the adventure in our heads. My kids love it and the sights, sounds, scents, feel of nature under our fingertips are reawakening my senses that have become so dulled by the constant hum of technology.
